Visiting Marwell Zoo
This week, we visited Marwell Zoo as part of our curriculum, which covers competition, adaptation and Natural selection. The pupils all worked very hard in class and put their knowledge to good use when we visited the wide range of animals the zoo had to show us.

We were lucky enough to have a special chat with Dave, one of the Zoo’s staff, who gave us a private chat about the giraffes and lemurs. Did you know that all ring-tailed lemurs have 13 rings on their tales? We didn’t before, but we do now.
The weather was glorious, the pupils were fantastic and the day was a huge success.
Eden Explores Space
This term's topic is Space, and as part of this, Eden pupils visited the Winchester Science Museum and Planetarium this Tuesday. We had the rare opportunity to have a private Planetarium show, learn about the planets, and explore the museum. During the afternoon, everyone took part in a rocket workshop where we designed an aerodynamic rocket, which was propelled using the same method and fuel as a real space rocket. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their time, and all were outstanding representatives.

Eden pupils also completed their puzzle challenge this week. As part of the space topic and to support wellbeing, Eden was challenged to complete a 1000-piece space puzzle as a team. They were given until the End of May to complete it; however, they have already beaten the target and are onto their second puzzle! We would like to thank Amrit and Matthew for helping us complete it.

English Poetry
This week has been an incredibly busy one for 9C, with multiple ongoing projects!
In English, our focus this term has been spoken word poetry, and all had the opportunity to perform "Strict" by Michael Rosen.
Building on this, they wrote their own poems inspired by "The British" by Benjamin Zephaniah. Through thought-provoking discussions, we explored what it means to be British from different perspectives and compared our ideas to Zephaniah’s message.
Everyone created their own poems, reflecting on what makes St. Edward’s School unique. Here are some of their incredible pieces:
Panini
First you get some odd teens and get some classes in a bowl and
Rinse it with a decrepit
architecture and sprinkle it in.
Get some teachers and mash some sarcasm and some bad jokes and
then throw the mogepoge of staff in the bowl and
stir vigorously and
boil it with key workers and
some expected behaviours until
smokey and now place in in-between some bits of bread and
put it on a grill until there is lines on both sides of the bread and you got your panini :)

Monkey World with 9C
On Tuesday, we had an incredible day at Monkey World, where we linked our Science topic on Adaptation and Evolution to real-life learning! We discovered that chimpanzees share 98% of their DNA with humans, orangutans 97%, and other apes 95% fascinating proof of our evolutionary connection! We also learned the difference between apes and monkeys and explored how humans evolved from apes. Observing their behaviour was eye-opening, and we even spotted some human-like learning behaviours in them! Some of us found an unexpected connection with Bryan, a lovely ape who had a meltdown over his instructor… and we jokingly promised never to be a "Bryan" again!

As always, our trip was an adventure we went ahead with Plan C and braved the uncertainty of whether the vehicle’s battery would last for the journey home! But through it all, our pupils showed resilience and were again fantastic ambassadors for our school. A truly unforgettable day out!
