St Edward's School

Weekly News Wrap-Up

Four students showed remarkable courage and dedication during the AQA course.

To start, they actively engaged with other schools, approaching groups to ask insightful questions about their presentations. Patrick and Oscar confidently navigated this task independently, without any staff support.

Later, each student stepped out of their comfort zone by contributing to a presentation in front of the AQA mentors. Despite initial nerves, they all participated with enthusiasm and determination.

Notably, Tom, who had planned to assist only by managing the slideshow, ended up taking the lead in delivering the presentation, a fantastic display of adaptability and leadership.

Their hard work and willingness to push themselves were truly commendable

Waitrose Interviews

Yesterday, our class took a fantastic trip to Waitrose, where pupils put their learning into practice in a real-world setting! As part of this term’s topic on Fairtrade and Maths’ on money,  the group applied their maths skills by purchasing both Fairtrade and non-Fairtrade products, comparing prices and making informed choices.

Beyond maths, they also practised their communication skills by interviewing customers about their views on Fairtrade. This was a key part of our end-of-term project, where pupils explored their abilities in creative media helping them consider whether this might be a future option subject next year.

The trip was a huge success! Everyone stepped out of their comfort zone, engaged confidently with the public, and, as always, were outstanding ambassadors of our school. A big well done to all!

BTEC Creative Media Year

Xander is deepening his filming techniques by mastering framing and storytelling through the camera. Instead of focusing solely on a character's face, he emphasised body positioning and camera movements to convey emotion and narrative. He also improved his editing skills, ensuring continuity while enhancing scenes with fitting music and thoughtful colour grading.

Take a look at his work so far.
