Modern Foreign Languages Day

A French Feast at St Edward's School

This week, St Edward's was transformed into a little corner of France! Our Modern Foreign Languages Day celebrated all things French, from cuisine to culture.

The day started with a fascinating assembly led by Fran, who dressed up as the iconic Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon took us on a journey through French history, sharing stories of kings, queens, and revolutions.

Throughout the day, pupils delved into various French-inspired activities. They whipped up delicious French treats in the kitchen, explored famous French literature, practised their language skills, and learned about the country's stunning architecture. There were even opportunities to try snails, which Alfie and Paddy devoured. Enriching physical activities such as an onsite Tour de France took place and swimming the length of a famous French monument. It was a fantastic day filled with fun, learning, and a taste of French culture. We can't wait to see what next year's MFL Day will bring!

Eden Visit Shepton Mallet Prison

Last Thursday, Eden visited Shepton Mallet Prison as part of their topic on Crime & Punishment. The prison, which closed in 2013 and used to house (prisoners) inmates with life (min 25yrs) sentences, is now a museum. We were allowed to be locked up in the cells. Our prison warden, whom we had to call ‘boss' to keep us in favour with her, gave a fascinating insight into life behind bars and explained how the prison opened in 1600 and has changed through the centuries. They even filmed scenes for the Paddington Bear film there. Fortunately, everyone behaved well, and we were allowed home. It was a fantastic day, and Eden would highly recommend visiting this place.

GCSE Science Practical

This week, our GCSE class embarked on their first GCSE-required practical investigation. Microscopy requires us to understand how the microscope works and how to calculate the magnification of the apparatus to determine the size of the cell samples we prepared. A lesson that required great ‘focus’.

Well done, boys. You are on track for good grades.

Online Safety

At St Edward's, we believe that online safety is crucial to our pupils' education. That's why we're committed to equipping them with the tools and knowledge they need to navigate the digital world responsibly.

We recently launched a new bitesize show designed to educate our pupils about online safety topics. This show has been introduced to upper and lower school assemblies, making it accessible to all our pupils.

This week, the show focused on the new privacy settings Instagram has implemented for users under 18. We aim to inform our pupils about the latest developments in online safety and help them make informed decisions about their digital activities.

Following the show, we held a Q&A session to encourage open dialogue and address our pupils' questions. This interactive approach fosters a culture of healthy online habits and reinforces the importance of digital citizenship.

By prioritising online safety education, we're proactively creating a safer and more positive digital environment for our pupils.
